  • 5 Things to Consider When Choosing a Siding Color

Siding is a great addition to any home. As the more permanent alternative to exterior wall paint, it can radically improve the look of your property and double as extra protection against the elements. Picking the right siding color is easier said than done. Fortunately, there are some guidelines to follow that can make choosing the right color simple.

5 Things to Consider When Choosing a Siding Color

PJ Sullivan Construction, one of the top kitchen renovation contractors in New Jersey, lists five things to consider when choosing a siding color.

1.    Consider the Neighborhood

Always keep in mind the neighborhood you’re in when choosing a siding color. There’s a thin line between standing out and looking out of place. This doesn’t necessarily mean mimicking the exterior colors of other houses. Rather, use them as a guide to find alternative color schemes for your siding.

2.    Color and Siding Material

Not all siding materials have the same color palettes, so choose wisely. Wood siding, for example, is limited to earthy tones and wood stains. We recommend installing vinyl or fiber cement if you want more color options to choose from.

3.    Consider the Architectural Style

The architectural style of your home will provide you visual cues that serve as a guide to helping you pick the right color siding. This applies to both external and interior siding such as the ones used in kitchen renovation.  Colonial architectural styles, for example, have a one-color aesthetic and are predominantly white.

4.    Roof and Siding

The color of your new siding must also contrast with the roof. Darker roofs, for example, contrast well with lighter colored siding and vice-versa. You can also use the same color scheme for both; just make sure that one is lighter or darker than the other.

5.    Consider the Climate

Finally, consider the local climate in your area. As a general rule, lighter colored siding is the better choice for warmer climates as it’s naturally reflective.

At PJ Sullivan Construction, we will help you decide on the best color for your new siding. We also offer kitchen remodeling services. New Jersey homeowners can reach us at (201) 614-2724 to learn more about our services. We offer kitchen renovation services in Sullivan County and Wyckoff, NJ.
