PJ Sullivan Exteriors is one of the leading siding contractors in our area because of our award-winning services, many years of experience and industry-leading products. We believe that our customers deserve only the best siding options for their homes. That’s why we install James Hardie® siding. In today’s post, we’ll provide a brief look into the installation process for HardieSoffit® panels.

What Is a Soffit?

The horizontal panels that cover the underside of your roof’s overhang is called the soffit. Its purpose is to close the space beneath the eave. It can also increase air ventilation and protect the parts of your home that are difficult to cover with paint or siding. The soffit extends from the side of your house to the edge of the eave.

How Do We Install HardieSoffit Panels?

As one of the top roof, siding and door replacement companies in our local area, we’re proud to offer James Hardie products to our customers. HardieSoffit panels can be installed over wood or steel framing. We install them to nominal 2×4 framing members spaced a maximum of 24 inches on center. We will position the vent holes towards the outside of the eave for optimal ventilation. We will also drive the nails flush to the soffit panel.

Once nailed, we will touch up nailheads on ColorPlus® products using the Hardie touchup pen. The fasteners we’ll use will be either galvanized, stainless steel or corrosion-resistant. We’ll use full-head nails for this installation and not staples or finishing nails. We can join soffit panels in several ways. For instance, we can join panels with factory edges in moderate contact. We can also use PVC or metal H-molding. We can also use a batten strip to cover the joint.

We are one of the top siding and window replacement companies in the area, so you can rely on us for all of your exterior home improvement needs.
